Overall FIS Crystal Globe Split in two

Jun. 8, 2010

OVERALL CRYSTAL GLOBE SPLIT IN TWO
As of 2011, FIS officials have voted in favour of dividing its Overall Snowboard Crystal Globe into two distinct categories, “speed” and “style”. The move comes after long debates over the validity and credibility of the winners of the Overall World Cup champion.

In the past, previous winners took home the Overall Globe mainly based on the actual number of events to which a certain discipline had in its calendar as opposed to the overall, all-around ability of the riders. Historically, it was primarily Alpine riders who took the Globe due to the high number of races held in one season as opposed to the Snowboardcross, Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Air events.

In the future, the Overall Crystal Globe will be awarded, in both gender, to Speed (PSL, PGS, SBX) and to Style (HP, SBS, BA) disciplines. The top six results for each rider will be taken into consideration in the final standings for the Overall title.
